DMS PTO Meetings - catch up over the summer

Join us!

Each month we invite a speaker on a topic pertinent to DMS families.

If you missed our meeting with DHS Principal Jim Donovan last week, you can watch/listen to it here.   This conversation is good for all DMS families, but especially 8th grade families preparing to make that transition.  And Principal McGuire gave us an update on all the year-end activities going on at DMS.  Listen in the pick-up line, on your walk, or while you’re making dinner – it’s one hour filled with useful information.

We were joined by Superintendent John Antonucci, School Committee Vice Chair Julia Adams, Assistant Superintendent Danielle Klingaman, and Business Manager Catherine Blake to discuss the Schools' budget ahead of Town Meeting on May 15.   Additionally, with spring very much in full swing, Sarah McGuire gave us an update on the DMS goings-on.  Take an hour to get informed and get involved.

Take a few minutes to learn more about course selection.  The Director of Guidance for Duxbury Schools, Lisa Dembowski, was our guest on Thursday, April 15.   Lisa answered questions about choosing courses, including how this crazy year might impact our kids’ educational experience going forward.  Sarah McGuire gave us an update on all things DMS, including the return to full-time, in-person learning.

On Thursday, March 4 we had the opportunity to meet the candidates for School Committee and Selectman in this month's town election.  Sean Dadsetan-Foley and Kristen O'Connell are running for one open School Committee seat while Fernando Guitart, Cindy Ladd Fiorini, and Mike McGee are running for the three open Selectmen seats.  They each introduced themselves and spoke a little on why they are running.  Additionally, we got a DMS update from Ms. McGuire. (Note: we started the recording a few minutes into our meeting, just after we explained the plan for the meeting and asked the candidates to introduce themselves.)

On Thursday, February 11, we hosted Denise Garvin, the Director of the Duxbury Free Library, as well as Kara King, our own brand new DMS/DHS Librarian.  They discussed and answered your questions about accessing library resources, hours, curbside pickup, and interlibrary loans as well as what is up and coming.    Also – Principal McGuire gave us an update and insights into how the second semester is looking, including an update on return to full-time in-person learning and results of the recent Panorama survey.  DMS uses Panorama surveys to improve student outcomes in social-emotional learning, school climate, family engagement, & more.

On Thursday, January 14, our special guest was Executive Functioning consultant Nicole Gambino.   Nicole offered tips and tools to support our children as we try to re-create the excitement and momentum of the beginning of the school year.  Click here for the powerpoint presentation she shared during the meeting. Nicole has oodles of experience helping middle school students get and stay organized, maximize their focus, and attain lasting school success and her insights are invaluable.  In addition, Sarah McGuire gave us an update on all things DMS.  This was a great meeting -- worth the time to check it out.

You'll have to supply your own coffee this year, but we'd love to have you join us and bring your questions.  Come to support DMS students and teachers and enhance our community!  It might be the most productive hour you spend this week!
