STEM and DLCS Department

Duxbury's STEM department brings together science, engineering, technology, mathematics, computer science, and digital literacy skills to focus on providing an equitable comprehensive STEM education that fosters a positive STEM identity and enables students to thrive in their everyday lives and to participate in informed civic engagement.

Our department's goals are to:

  • Increase access to a comprehensive STEM education for all students,

  • Elevate diverse students' identities, assets, and cultures in policies, resources, and materials, and

  • Increase authentic connections of STEM learning by focusing on everyday experiences, local environments, career opportunities, and the social-political context.

The department is working to achieve our goals through activities including:

  • Investigating and applying for a MA DESE Innovation Pathway with Dr. Elizabeth Wilcox, Assistant Superintendent, and Caitlin Sheehan, DEI Director,

  • Entering our fourth year (2025-2026 school year) working with the Programming and Computing Equity - Teaching with Opportunity (PACE-TWO) project to improve representation and equity in our high school computer science (CS) programs in Massachusetts. This program is funded by a three-year National Science Foundation grant (award #2219365) in the CSforAll Researcher Practitioner Partnership program and is run out of MIT's Teaching Systems Lab,

  • Providing Duxbury High School students STEM experiences through Matt Files' internship program, and

  • Focusing on authentic project-based learning curricula.
