Technology at Chandler School
Student Classroom Devices
At Chandler, we have iPads for all students K-1. Second graders have Chromebooks. In preschool and special education, there are additional iPads available for small-group instruction and independent exploration. Students use devices for skill practice, reading and comprehension, research, gathering pictures, and sharing their learning with peers. Teachers use devices and technology on a regular basis to support robust instruction and the development of 21st-century skills.
Here are some of the apps, online subscriptions, and digital practice programs we use to support instruction:
iReady Reading and Math
Tumblebooks Library
BrainPop Jr.
Mystery Science
Epic! Books
Pebble Go
Google Slides and Drive
Book Creator
The Lab
Our lab supports digital literacy and instructional technology. In addition to the classroom devices, the Chandler lab has Chromebooks available to practice keyboarding and using a mouse which are both part of the technology standards. Classes visit the computer lab once a week to work with a variety of digital tools including Wonder Robots Dot and Dash, KIBO, and Bee-Bots. They can create green screen videos or be Lego engineers. Some "unplugged" items include Strawbees, Snap Circuits, stem-building kits, and Modular Robotics Cubelets. The lab time fosters creativity, teamwork, problem-solving, and self-esteem, along with reinforcing academic skills learned in the classroom.
