Senior Project is a creative, yet structured, deadline-oriented program that is an opportunity for DHS seniors to demonstrate skills, knowledge, and maturity. It emphasizes DHS Core Values and Learning Expectations. It allows students to combine their vocational and avocational interests with academics. It is graded, added to their transcript, and is a fitting conclusion to their high school education. Senior Project presents an opportunity for students to work with a professional in the community to gain "real world" experience and information using inter-disciplinary approaches while working on a project outside the traditional classroom. Each project should represent a learning stretch, have elements of problem-solving, and be in a subject or field in which there is interest, but limited or no expertise. Senior Project is a way for students to give back to the community. Projects must have substance and students must have the motivation to complete them successfully. Resourcefulness, independence, and the ability to learn are traits measured by this program. It consists of four components: proposal, portfolio, product and oral presentation.
