Welcome to a new school year! I am looking forward to working with your child this year in social studies. We have developed a program that is varied and challenging in order to meet the needs of all students in the class. I will also be working with the students in each class in an effort to create a safe, positive, and enjoyable (yet challenging) learning environment.
Our sixth grade program uses the Houghton Mifflin Harcourt World Geography Program which utilizes an online textbook. A variety of interactive "links" can be found within the textbook to enhance each topic. We will study the geography of several continents outside of North America and examine the five major concepts of geography (location, place, human-environment interaction, movement, and regions). We have also incorporated a variety of outside material/resources, including the use of Schoology, to supplement the program.

F.Y.I. Your child will be chosing a “study buddy” from his/her social studies class. They should contact this person in the event of an absence. Their “buddy” will inform him/her of what took place in social studies class that day, as well as any homework that has been assigned. I’m hoping that this will prevent students from feeling “lost” upon return to class and help to keep homework from “piling up”.
