    Cinnamon Applesauce Ornaments

For the holidays the boys and girls here at Alden School will be making cinnamon ornaments.  Students will be learning associated vocabulary, practice following multiple step directions and develop organizers to assist in retelling the procedure.  These delicious-smelling, non-edible ornaments require only cinnamon and apples sauce to make. No cooking is required or baking is necessary making it a great project for kids.  They will need to air-dry, so if you are trying this at home, plan ahead.

     Ingredients/Materials:

Equal parts of cinnamon and applesauce

    Large bowl and spoon

    Small straw to poke holes

    Holiday Shapes/cookie cutters

    Wax paper

    Glue

Glitter, ribbon, buttons, or beads for decorating

     Preparation:

Mix equal parts of cinnamon and applesauce to make a stiff dough, kneading well to combine (you may use your hands.)

Divide dough into small (approximately three inch) balls.  Roll balls between hands or on table/counter top to remove cracks/make smooth.

Flatten balls to ½ inch thickness by patting them with the palms of your hands.

Use your favorite cookie cutter to cut out shapes.

Poke a holes in ornaments to insert ribbons through when decorating.

Let ornaments dry on wax paper for several days, turning occasionally until hard.

     Thread with ribbon.

Decorate and hang or give as gifts.
