Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Catherine Held
Hello! My name is Mrs. Held and I am thrilled to be your child's second grade teacher. This is my nineteenth year teaching second grade at Chandler. My daughter, Caitlin, is a ninth grader at DHS and my son, Andrew, is in sixth grade at DMS. My husband, Rich, works in finance. I enjoy walking, reading, collecting sea glass, and going on adventures.
I had a great summer! We spent a lot of time on Cape Cod in Falmouth where we enjoyed the beach, visiting with family, watching the July 4th fireworks, eating goodies from Maison Villatte, and biking on the Shining Sea Bikeway. Back home, I took my children to the Roger Williams Zoo, Duxbury Beach, deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum, and bowling at Pinz.
I grew up in Millburn, New Jersey. From first grade through high school we had a summer house on Cape Cod and my dad would take me to Red Sox games every summer. My love of New England began young.
I have always wanted to be a teacher. I used to play school with my dolls and stuffed animals and then when my sisters came along, they were students too. I received my bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Kean University. When I graduated college I moved to Duxbury, Massachusetts with my family. I substitute taught in the Duxbury schools and then went into finance. I was meant to be in the classroom so I came back to Chandler. I received my master's degree in Special Education from Bridgewater State College.
My hopes for your child this year are that they are challenged, they feel successful, and their self-esteem grows alongside their academics. I want your child to be a confident problem-solver and independent thinker that enjoys learning in the classroom. I believe that communication is key to our relationship and your child's success. I look forward to a fun year full of learning!
