• Student Summer Support and Resources 
     
    The mathematics department does not require the completion of work over the summer. However, families can utilize the resources provided on this page for practice throughout the summer if they so choose.      How can I practice my understanding of mathematics over the summer? 
     
    1. Summer Math Packets

    Although not required work, the previously used summer math packets linked below will provide you with a layout of the pre-requisite skills required for each course and level. We recommend that students utilizing these packets try a few problems from each section to ensure they have a general understanding of the pre-requisite content for their courses. If for some reason you do not recognize the concept, copy and paste the directions for that section in a web browser and see if there are resources on Khan Academy or an academic site to help clarify that concept for you. 

     
     
     
     

    2. Khan Academy

    Khan Academy is a free service to students that offers instructional videos and practice. Students can also participate in SAT practice through the site for free. The link provided will bring you to a menu that allows for you to select math practice by grade level or by course. Please note the following distinctions:

    Students in grade 6 should select "Arithmetic" or "grade 6"

    Students in grade 7 should select "Pre-Algebra" or "grade 7"

    Students in grade 8 should select "Algebra 1" or "grade 8"

    All of the practice provided in Khan Academy is aligned to the Curriculum Frameworks and offers appropriate grade level practice for students. We recommend that students needing additional skill support visit the grade specific practice as opposed to pre-algebra, for example. 

     

    3. Prodigy Game

    The Prodigy Game is aligned to the Curriculum Frameworks and is also free to use. The game is a virtual world where your wizard has to battle other wizards by answering math questions. Parents will need to set this up for their students and select their student's grade level to ensure that students are answering questions that are age appropriate. Prodigy is a fun way for students to practice their math skills throughout the summer and also a way for parents to receive reports on their child's progress with specifics on which skills they need additional practice. 

     

    In addition to this page, we encourage you to visit the Resources for Mathematics Students page on the school website. On this page, students can find suggestions on how to utilize the web as a means for support in mathematics.
