Current literature, as well as Position Statements from the American Academy of Pediatrics and the National Association of School Nurses  does not support mass screening of peers in a classroom when a classmate has been identified as having had lice.  Mass screenings take valuable time away from learning.
Lice do not carry disease, they do not hop or fly.  They must crawl from head to head, hat, brush or other hair related item.  It is strongly recommended not to share these items between family members or friends.
Please contact the school nurse if your child has head lice. Notification is sent home to parents of classmates so that they can check their own children and take the necessary precautions.
