Elementary Music & Strings
Abby Clemons teaches grade 3 through 5 general music, grade 5 beginning string instruments, and grade 6 small group string lessons for Duxbury Public Schools. Outside of the school day she enjoys teaching her private violin and viola studio. As a performer Abby currently plays viola with the Quincy Symphony Orchestra. Previous to that she performed with the Fall River Symphony and the Rhode Island Philharmonic Community Orchestra. She has gigged with “La Bella Musicia,” “The Sunflower Quartet” and other southern new england chamber groups.
Mrs. Clemons is a 2009 graduate of the University of Rhode Island earning her undergraduate degree in music education. There she studied viola with Ann Danis and performed in the symphony orchestra and countless chamber ensembles. As a singer Abby sang alto with the Rhode Island University Chorus and the auditioned Concert Choir. In fall 2009, Abby began her professional teaching career in Dartmouth Public Schools teaching string orchestra to students in grades 4 through 12. At that time she also worked for the non-profit Community String Project in Bristol Rhode Island teaching group violin lessons after school. There she wrote a string curriculum for the program for low socioeconomic and at risk students.
Currently Mrs. Clemons is earning her masters in music education from the summers masters program at Gordon University. She has received her Orff level 1 certification, Conversational Solege Levels 1 and 2, studied violin pedagogy, and hold a certification in teahing O'Connor method fiddling levels 1 and 2.
