• Ric Madru 

    Director of Music Emeritus

    Ric Madru served as Music Department Head and Band Director for the Duxbury Public Schools from 1983 - 2018. In this role, Mr. Madru had developed and fostered a collaborative relationship among the music department faculty that has been focused on students' learning, growth, and accomplishments.

    Throughout his tenure, Mr. Madru had led efforts to create more student opportunities such as high school students demonstrating instruments for 5th grade beginners, numerous music department tours and competitions where Duxbury High School students were awarded and recognized for their high-level performances, and performances at state, regional, and national music conferences by Duxbury High School and Middle School ensembles.  

    In addition, Mr. Madru had made an impact on district-wide school culture by creating annual traditions such as Holiday Music Assemblies for all schools and the concert hour before the Duxbury High School Graduation, which allows graduating seniors to select music and conduct the performances.

    As Music Department Head, Mr. Madru had developed a well rounded music program, which consists of six choruses, nine bands, and seven orchestras; several of which have performed at various MMEA and NAfME conferences. Under his direction, the DHS Wind Ensemble has performed at the MMEA Conference six times and the All Eastern Conference in 2003.  They also have earned several gold medals at the MICCA Festival. The Wind Ensemble, String Ensemble and Chamber Singers have traveled and toured extensively. They have performed at Carnegie Hall five times, and also have performed in Washington D.C., San Francisco, Virginia Beach, and Montreal.

    Mr. Madru is a graduate of Westfield State College with a B.A. in Music Education and a Minor on trombone. He studied conducting at the New England Conservatory of Music, and received a Master of Supervision and Administration Degree from Suffolk University.  Mr. Madru started his teaching career in the Salem Public Schools and also taught in Manchester By the Sea.
