SUMMER READING AND ENRICHMENT
We fundamentally believe that students benefit from continued application over the course of the summer of the key skills of reading, writing, and critical thinking. We recognize that summer is a time for students to relax and have fun. With this in mind, we continually evaluate the amount and nature of the work we assign and ensure that the workload is manageable and valuable. At DMS, this has typically looked like each student selecting one book to read from a list of options provided by English teachers by grade level. This year, however, we will be doing a required grade level read, and our department supervisors have worked to provide students and families with materials to support their skill retainment and curriculum exposure during this summer. Therefore, on the links to the side, you will find each department's enrichment resources for this summer. Additionally, should you have any questions regarding the expectations for these assignments, or need support in a specific department area, the contact information for each department supervisor is available below.
We strongly recommend that students and families develop a plan at the start of the summer for the completion of their reading, and review of any enrichment. We do not recommend waiting until the last two weeks of the summer to start any summer activities.
If you have any specific questions about the summer resources for your child, please contact the relevant Subject Supervisor or building administrator.
