Science Fair FAQs

  • Can I work with a partner?

    Posted by:

Yes, we welcome partners, but you can only work with one other person in the same grade. It is recommended that you plan carefully if working with a partner because the judges take into consideration how each partner contributed and how balanced your work was. Plan ahead so there is ample time for partners to work together before the judging.

  • How large will the display space for my project be?

    Posted by:

Each Science Fair project will have about 3 feet of a tabletop to display. A tri-fold display board will fit nicely in this space. Please call the curriculum office with any unique space concerns.

  • Part of my project uses a laptop to display content. Should I bring it in Friday night or Saturday?

    Posted by:

Registration will be Friday night. All projects should be set up to be ready for judging on Saturday morning. However, please do not leave any electronics in the building overnight. All electronics should be brought with you on Saturday morning.

  • Can I stay with my child?

    Posted by:

All parents must remain outside of Alden School. Feel free to have one guardian/adult see your child to the display spot and leave. Thank you for helping us to maintain social distancing protocols. There are lots of adults near your children at all times and they can ask any adult staff member or judge for help if they have a question or a problem. Also, we make every effort to have the Chandler children judged very quickly and come back to you in short order.

  • What should I do while my child is being judged?

    Posted by:

The Alden/Chandler PTAs may offer refreshments available for purchase in the Alden School office lobby. It is not recommended that you leave the school campus as many children, especially younger ones, are taken quite early, and it may be unsettling for them when you are not there to meet them when the judges escort them to the lobby. We generally have seating available in room 102.

  • My child has a sports event at 11:00 on Saturday. Can you guarantee judging by 10:30?

    Posted by:

Although sometimes students are fully judged earlier in the morning, we cannot guarantee that a student will be fully judged at a particular time.  With over 200 entries and dozens of judges, it is an undertaking to get all the projects assigned to three different judges and then judged.  If you have another commitment, please make a choice about whether you will be available to participate in the science fair.  Thank you for your understanding.
