National Honor Society 2019-2020

  • New Update (01 FEB 2021)

    Hi DHS Families:

National Honor Society membership is an honor inferred upon DHS seniors who the faculty determined have met high standards in the four pillars of NHS: Academic Excellence, Commitment to Community Service, Leadership, and Character.  The following timeline for the NHS Application process for identified candidates is shared:

Electronic Application emailed to all candidates by a targeted date of 12 FEB.  Hardcopy letter and commitment form mailings will follow the electronic invite.

05 March:  Applications Due.  All applications must be in submitted in the electronic format requested and be submitted by midnight for consideration.

19 March:  In-person Interviews for candidates to be conducted at DHS.  This is a Professional Development date with no student classes, so please save the date.

Week of 22 March:  Extra opportunities for interviews after school as needed.   Scheduling of these slots require documentation and permission in advance from faculty advisors.

18 April: Electronic membership offer tended.  Hardcopy notifications will also be mailed.

17 or 18 May:  Induction Practice (Mandatory Event)

    25 May:  Induction (Mandatory Event)

It is recognized by the faculty that this may be a difficult year for candidates to demonstrate that they have completed twenty hours of community service prior to the application date.  In response, students will need to provide stronger proof of their commitment to community service in their personal essays and their recommendation letter.

Students who fail to submit sufficient evidence that they have a met the standards of the four pillars required for NHS membership (academic excellence, commitment to community service, leadership, and character) in their application packet will be asked to attend an interview with faculty members.  Therefore, not all students will be offered an interview, but all students should attempt to reserve time on 19 March should an interview be required.  Once the total number of candidates for the class of 2022 have been identified, the faculty advisors will publish a target date by which all candidates who require an interview will have been informed.

The faculty advisors are Mrs. Radzik and Ms. Coleman.

The home of NHS is Room A240, before or after school.
