Duxbury Superintendent of Schools John Antonucci announced today that Heather Tucker has been named the district’s new Director of Special Education. Ms. Tucker will replace Ms. Teri Babetski, who announced her retirement in late June.

Ms. Tucker has served as the Administrator for Special Education for the Stoughton Public Schools since 2010, and brings over 20 years of teaching and leadership experience to Duxbury. She has a Bachelor of Science in Communication Disorders from the University of Rhode Island, a Master of Education in Intensive Special Needs from Lesley University, and a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in Educational Leadership from Lesley University. Ms. Tucker is a Duxbury native and attended the Duxbury Public Schools.

Antonucci commented, “After completing a thorough and inclusive search process, it was clear to me that Heather has the right combination of skills and experience to be a tremendous leader in our district. In Stoughton, she brought stability, consistency, and efficiency to the special education department, and developed programs to meet the complex needs of students. She is a highly effective communicator, and develops strong, collaborative relationships with parents, faculty, staff, and students. Perhaps most importantly, Ms. Tucker has been described as an ‘advocate and champion’ for students with special needs”.

“It is with great enthusiasm that I join the Duxbury Public Schools’ leadership team”, Tucker said in a statement. “Duxbury’s commitment to highquality education is evident by the expectations set forth for the students to not only achieve academically, but also to be wellrounded individuals. In alignment with Duxbury’s expectations, my belief is that ALL students can achieve and perform to the high standards set for each individual, given the appropriate supports and strategies. I am excited to have this new professional opportunity to use my talents and knowledge for the benefit of a community that I hold dear. I am passionate about special education and making the curriculum accessible for students with disabilities. I am excited to be the next Director of Special Education for Duxbury Public Schools.”
